The Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) have spoken against calls to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s time in office beyond 2028. They say such calls go against the Constitution and will harm the country.

The ZHOCD released a statement asking the President to stand firm and not allow political allies to pressure him into changing the Constitution. They believe this is for the greater good of Zimbabwe.

The Church says extending presidential terms will break the law and damage trust in Zimbabwe’s democratic processes. They remind everyone that the President has often said he will respect the Constitution and not stay beyond the legal limits.

The ZHOCD says the President’s commitment to the Constitution is important for good governance and national peace. They encourage him to stay true to his promise to uphold the law.

The Church also urges the government to make sure elections happen on time and are free and fair. They say this will ensure peace and accountability. The Church believes regular elections are necessary for a stable Zimbabwe.

They warn that extending term limits will hurt public trust and create instability. This will come at a time when Zimbabwe needs unity and peace to rebuild its economy and society.

The ZHOCD asks the government to focus on reforms and democratic values. They believe these changes will help the country move forward and bring peace and progress.

The Church also calls on Zimbabweans to speak out in support of the Constitution and reject any attempts to change it. They say every citizen has a duty to put the country first and respect the law.

They ask Members of Parliament to help protect the Constitution and make sure the government respects the law. They also want all political parties to follow the rules and promote democracy.

The ZHOCD reminds everyone of a Bible verse, Micah 6:8, which says people should act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.

They believe Zimbabwe can achieve peace, unity, and progress if everyone follows these principles. The ZHOCD’s message is clear: Zimbabwe’s Constitution must be respected, and presidential term limits must stay.

The Church says the 2028 elections are a chance to show the world that Zimbabwe respects the law. They want a peaceful transfer of power, as this will build trust and stability.

The ZHOCD’s statement ends with a call to action. They ask the President, the government, Members of Parliament, and all Zimbabweans to protect the Constitution. They say everyone must work together for a better Zimbabwe.

The Church has spoken. Now, the nation must listen.
